A Statement from the Leadership Team of Operation to Save Lives & QRT National on the Death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis

“Our thoughts go to the family and loved ones of Tyre Nichols, who was unjustly killed by five former Memphis Police officers. The actions of those officers were reprehensible and resulted in a needless loss of life.

“As three retired police chiefs, we are appalled by the treatment Mr. Nichols suffered and we understand the gravity of this professional and ethical failure.

“Now, as the Leadership Team of Operation to Save Lives & QRT National, we have worked with hundreds of police officers across the country who strive every day to protect their communities and extend a helping hand to those in need.

“The connection between police and their community partners is the foundation of the work we do at O2SL & QRT National. Our work is rooted in community and in the value of all human life. We work across the country on community-driven initiatives that enhance the training of those who serve and make resources available that will help them provide compassionate and fundamental support during community interactions.

“Positive police-community partnerships are crucial to the development and success of initiatives that can help build healthier, safer communities, and we will continue working at O2SL & QRT National to build these partnerships across the country.”
