Deflection Echo (Virtual Session)

O2SL and QRT National will be leading and among the panelists for multiple Deflection ECHO virtual learning sessions in the first half of 2024. These sessions provide a collaborative environment for law enforcement, medical responders, addiction treatment providers, peers, and those with lived experiences to partner to share evidence-based strategies and solutions to the substance use crises facing communities across the nation. The target audience would be QRTs, law enforcement, EMS/EMT, peer support, individuals with lived experience, mental health/substance use clinicians, social workers, counselors, public health, hospitals, schools, and other community agencies. Topics will include Deflection 101, Trauma Informed Response, Research and Evaluation, Pharmacology in SUD/AUD Treatment, and Working with Families. This is a public service offered by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence (CJCCoE) in NEOMED’s Department of Psychiatry through American Rescue Plan Act funding awarded by the Office of Criminal Justice Services.

This presentation will introduce the core concepts of collaborative community response and the larger topic of deflection with discussion around identifying key strategies and principles of deflection, differentiating it from diversion, identifying key stakeholders and partners, and exploring the Six “Deflection” Pathways.

O2SL and QRT National will be conducting a 2-Day Boyd County Situation Table training on October 23rd and 24th, 2023, in Russell, KY. The Situation Table training is a multi-phase process that includes various progressive stages of learning and implementation. This training will prepare a community, its key stakeholders, and partners with the skills and lessons necessary for implementing a Situation Table that addresses Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) and implementing collaborative solutions to individuals or situations identified as being at Acutely Elevated Risk.

O2SL and QRT National will be presenting on Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and participating in a panel discussion during the Northern Kentucky Justice Collaborative’s “A Response to a Community Problem” training event that will be held on September 28, 2023, in Covington, KY. This training event is designed to provide an overview of the social and economic impacts of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) on the justice system as well as provide information on the Angel initiative and QRT deflection and pre-arrest diversion models in Kentucky and around the United States.

O2SL & QRT National will be presenting on the topics of Crisis Management and QRT at the Regional Conference for Substance Use Disorder 2023, which was produced by the Southern Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC). The Southern Kentucky AHEC strives to improve health in 15-county region by linking community and academic resources. This is done through support for students and practitioners and youth education.
