LinkedIn Repost: A Word from Maria Cheevers, Director, Office of Research and Development, Boston Police Department

“The Boston Police Department in partnership with the Madison Park CDC and Dewitt Center sponsored a 100 participant HUB Situation Table training today that was fun, engaging, educational and inspiring for all who attended. Next steps will include a smaller training for several HUB Table Chairs and Recorders, followed by the re-launch of the B2/Roxbury and C11/Dorchester weekly HUB Table convenings.

I would like to thank Lyndon Vincent and Rev. Will Smart of the Madison Park CDC for providing us with use of the Dewitt Center and agreeing to be lead CBO for the B2 Hub moving forward; Superintendent Nora Baston, Deputy Superintendent Pam Harris and PO Artie DePina for supporting these trainings on-going with both sworn and civilian partners; Caelann Woods, BDP/ORD Citywide HUB Coordinator, for masterfully staffing this training; Keyla Jackson for her years of expertise and dedication to this model; and our 2 HUB Trainers, Dan Cortez, Chelsea PD and Scott Allen from Cor Data Health, who are expert trainers in this work.

The Boston Police Department launched its Citywide Hub Initiative in 2018, within two Boston neighborhoods’ (i.e. East Boston and Jamaica Plain), in partnership with up to 60 community-based service providers to meet the unique needs of our communities most vulnerable residents. Hub Tables seek to connect individuals and families, deemed to be at an acutely elevated risk of harm, with service providers equipped with the resources to mitigate that risk. Through a four-filter process, designed to protect the confidentiality of those needing support, the model is a new way of utilizing resources that are already in place in different and unified ways. The Hub does not perform case management. Its purpose is to mitigate risk within 24-48 hours of introduction at weekly Hub Table convenings by connecting those in need to services.”
