Jeremiah Nicastro

Police Community Outreach
Lieutenant Nicastro oversees the Gloucester, Massachusetts Police Department’s Community Impact Unit. His law enforcement career started in 1998. During his tenure, Lieutenant Nicastro has served as a Correctional Officer, Patrolman, Detective, Sergeant, and in his current position of Lieutenant.

Experience
In 2015, Lieutenant Nicastro played a vital role in the implementation and operation of the “Angel Initiative”, one of the five Pathways in the evolving field of Deflection. The Angel Initiative, although highly successful in its mission, has expanded to be more inclusive of an overall community outreach approach with multiple pathways to recovery and treatment for all services needed to improve the quality of life for its residents.

He is also a member of Gloucester’s High-Risk Task Force which is a collaborative team approach to rendering services needed by individuals in the community. The Community Impact Unit takes on a problem-solving approach to address those struggling with substance use disorder, homelessness, and mental health disorders. Nicastro has also served on a United Nations World of Medicine committee to train others worldwide on “How police can take a different approach to address community needs”.
